he Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium chalk artist welcomed attendees to the 4th Annual FontanaFest with drawings of elephants, monkeys, and other animals that can be visited at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Senator Fontana speaks with attendees at FontanaFest who are sporting the keepsake bags from the event.  Nearly 1,000 people enjoyed the beautiful fall weather at South Side's Riverfront Park at the September 2008 event. Another popular booth at FontanaFest is the Citiparks Art Cart where kids can make a variety of crafts and projects with help of the City's Parks & Recreation Department employees.

The Home Depot brought its Kids' Depot tent to FontanaFest for the first time this year.  It was a big hit with the kids who were able to make several different types of wooden projects. The rock climbing wall sponsored by the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts has been a popular attraction at FontanaFest for the past two years as young and old alike try their skills to reach the top.

Kids can also spend some time in an inflatable while parents get more information to help them in raising their children. The Sugarplum Fairy from the Pittsburgh Ballet's production of The Nutcracker made a pre-season visit to FontanaFest where she showed ballet steps to attendees and posed for photos.

A participant from the very first year, the PA Fish & Boat Commission has offered attendees the opportunity to go out on the Monongahela River in canoes or kayaks to see for themselves what the river front has to offer. RiverQuest, an organization offering river-based educational adventure programs for students, teachers and community, also participated in FontanaFest and took attendees for a cruise on the Monongahela River, showcasing the beautiful Pittsburgh rivers and the programs that they offer.
