Upcoming CCAC Job Fairs

The Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is hosting job fairs during the month of October at its four campuses in Allegheny County.  Representatives from many of the region’s employers will be present to discuss job openings, answer questions and provide information to attendees.  All of the job fairs are open to current CCAC students, alumni and to the general public.  The schedule and locations for each of the job fairs are as follows:

Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council

The Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council (GPLC) is a national leader in adult education and family literacy.  The GPLC provides programs for 8,000 adults each year in the Pittsburgh region and is available to assist job seekers, with better preparing themselves to secure employment.

Many employers today require potential employees have a minimum of a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.  The GPLC can assist individuals in completing the requirements for securing a GED, especially for individuals that lack regular computer access.  If you are interested in completing the GED and need assistance, I encourage you to contact the GPLC at 412-393-7600 or 412-393-7650 to make a pre-registration appointment.  You will have access to a computer and the GPLC staff will assist you through the registration process.

The GPLC offers other programs that can benefit job seekers in addition to GED preparation such as assisting adults with basic reading, writing and math skills.  Individuals can receive personal classroom instruction in these areas and the classes can cover a wide range of skills depending on the individual’s needs.  The GPLC also works with participating employers in designing educational programs that consider the objectives of the employers while satisfying the needs of the employees.  Individuals looking to improve their computer skills, whether for personal or professional development, can attend computer training classes at GPLC’s downtown locations.  Classes start with computer basics and the Internet for beginners and then progress to specific software applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

GPLC’s programs promote adult literacy and can be of great assistance to current workers and those individuals that need assistance in finding employment.
