BROOKLINE, October 7, 2011 – State Sen. Wayne D. Fontana today announced a series of seven career workshops beginning October 15th and running through November 17th that will help attendees gain control of the job search process, create powerful resumes and develop material that showcases their unique talents and abilities in today’s competitive job market. The program “Skills for Success – The Fontana Series” is being presented by the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh with funding secured by the Senator for this purpose.

“Looking for the right opportunity is challenging and time-consuming and can be frustrating. Many current job seekers have families and other responsibilities that make it harder to spend the necessary time preparing for a job search or finding the right jobs,” said Fontana. “The Skills for Success series is intended to build skills, help job seekers create excellent resumes and cover letters, learn the ins and outs of online job applications and receive the personal feedback and assistance that can make the difference in their job search.”

Participants at the free workshops will take part in mock interviews, develop job hunting strategies and networking skills and will receive assistance with application packages. Computer access, refreshments and materials are provided. Interested individuals can register online at www.clpgh.org or by calling 412-281-7141, x 2012. Rachel Masilamani and Goergiana Deming will be the presenters. They have over ten years combined experience assisting library visitors with job hunting, online applications and resume writing.

“I continue to work with my colleagues in Harrisburg to identify ways to spur job creation, stabilize the economy and instill confidence in those who do the hiring. More than a half million Pennsylvanians are out of work. I am committed to doing everything in my power to ensure that creating and retaining good-paying jobs is part of any discussion that we have at the state level and am proud to be able to offer the “Skills for Success” opportunity to give job seekers a leg up in their search.”
