HARRISBURG, June 20, 2011 – State Sen. Wayne D. Fontana today provided the following statement after Trinity Commercial Development LLC of Pittsburgh announced that it was redeveloping the old Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad property in McKees Rocks, a project that could spur the creation of more than 400 jobs.

Fontana obtained state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) funds to help clean up and prepare the property for commercial development.

“I am thrilled to have teamed up with Trinity and local officials to help make this key local redevelopment project happen. This infusion of economic activity and jobs in our region is a big plus as we continue to emerge from the recession.

“While new development is always welcome, I am particularly pleased to have joined an effort to redevelop and reinvigorate a largely abandoned industrial brownfield. The fruition of this project underscores the value of investing state dollars in proven jobs and economic development programs. I also thank and commend our area’s congressmen, particularly U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, for partnering with us and bringing federal dollars to this project.

“I will continue to seek state funding and resources to supplement local efforts aimed at stoking new economic development and job opportunities.”
