BROOKLINE, JAN. 21, 2010 – State Sen. Wayne D. Fontana today reminded low-income families facing heating crises that Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) crisis grants are now available.

“Many families experience unexpected trouble heating their homes,” Fontana said. “The crisis grant program allows Pennsylvania families facing the loss of heat during the cold winter months to stay warm should they find themselves in one of these emergencies.”

Crisis grants are available to families to help resolve heating emergencies, such as furnace failures or unexpected fuel shortages. Fontana said approximately 126,000 households should benefit from the crisis grant program this heating season.

Fontana said LIHEAP also offers cash grants to help income-eligible households pay winter heating bills.
