BROOKLINE, April 17, 2009 – Senator Wayne D. Fontana today reminded area voters that the voter registration deadline for the May 19 primary election is this Monday, April 20.

“This year’s primary will feature numerous local, county and statewide judicial races,’ Fontana said. “People too often overlook the importance of local elections that determine who their local municipal and school board members will be. I urge everyone to vote and let their voice be heard.”

Fontana said people who want to register, change their address or change their party affiliation must postmark or hand carry their application to their county board of elections by the close of business this Monday, April 20.

Individuals registering to vote for the May 19 primary must be:

  • A U.S. citizen for at least one month before the primary.
  • A Pennsylvania and resident of the election district in which the individual desires to register and vote for at least 30 days before the primary.
  • At least 18 years of age on or before the primary.

Printable voter registration applications are available through VotesPA.com.

Fontana said applicants should contact the county board of elections if they do not receive confirmation within 14 days of sending their application.
