HARRISBURG, March 8, 2012 – State Senator Wayne D. Fontana (D – Allegheny) has been selected to serve on the Senate Committee on Ethics and Official Conduct.

“I am honored to serve on the ethics panel because I know how important the committee is and the role that it plays in the operation of the state Senate,” Fontana said.  “The Committee on Ethics receives complaints against any Senator alleging unethical conduct and is guided by detailed rules of procedure in handling issues that arise.”

Fontana was appointed to the committee by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati upon the recommendation of Senate Democratic Leader Sen. Jay Costa.

The committee has six members.  It is the only standing committee where the membership is evenly divided between the Majority and Minority parties.

“The Committee on Ethics can issue reports to the full Senate about unethical behavior of members and may also supply advisory opinions when Senate ethical rules need clarification,” Fontana said.

Fontana has represented the 42nd District in the Senate since 2005.
