HARRISBURG, December 18, 2008 – State Senator Wayne D. Fontana (D-Brookline) has been appointed to serve as Democratic Chair of the Senate Committee on Community, Economic and Recreational Development.

“This committee post will give me a greater opportunity to steer investment toward our communities, create good jobs and make our hometowns more attractive places to live and raise a family,” Fontana said.

“State government must place more emphasis on helping local communities attract greater outside interest, investment, and create a solid economic foundation for the future.”

Elected in 2005, Fontana was also appointed by Senate Democratic Leader Bob Mellow to serve on the committees on Judiciary, Law and Justice, Policy, Urban Affairs and Housing, and Transportation.
