HARRISBURG, June 25, 2014 – The state Senate has unanimously approved legislation (House Bill 2072) that includes an amendment sponsored by Sen. Wayne D. Fontana (D-Allegheny) to rename a portion of Route 51 in Kennedy Township as the “Captain Sean M. Ruane Memorial Highway.”

“Naming this roadway in honor of Captain Ruane will provide a lasting tribute to a good man who died in service to his country,” Fontana said. “This designation is a fitting and worthy salute to one of Kennedy Township’s very best.”

Captain Ruane was a U.S. Air Force crewman who died in a helicopter crash in England on January 7, 2014. The Kennedy Township resident was conducting a low-level training flight at the time of the crash. He is survived by his wife, Rachel, and 1-year-old son, Liam.

The Fontana proposal would designate the Fleming Park Road section of Route 51 that intersects with Coraopolis Road in Kennedy Township as the Captain Sean M. Ruane Memorial Highway.

The omnibus bill now returns to the House of Representatives for consideration
