Skills for Success to Return in Spring

I am happy to announce that another round of workshops as part of Skills for Success: The Fontana Series will be returning to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh (CLP) branches this spring.  CLP branches in Brookline, West End and Mt. Washington will be hosting Skills for Success workshops, beginning in April.  If you are currently looking for a job or need assistance with any aspect of the job searching process, these free workshops will serve as a great resource for you. 

I have spoken directly with attendees of past workshops who have been able to find full-time work after putting to practice many of the lessons learned at Skills for Success.  A recent attendee, Kathleen Hawk of Pittsburgh, offered this remark about her experience:  “Skills for Success is a great workshop and I received some very helpful tools that I plan to incorporate in my job search!”

I was proud to partner with CLP in 2011, providing grant funding for this free series aimed at building skills and creating excellent resumes and applications that aid job seekers in achieving the positions they desire.  Whether you have already built a resume and are looking to fine-tune it, if you are starting from scratch and need help with organizing your work history, need assistance with searching for positions online, or require help in improving your interviewing skills, this free workshop will benefit you.

Pennsylvania Women Work

I want women who are currently looking for employment to be aware of an organization that can assist in several ways.  Pennsylvania Women Work (PAWW) is a non-profit organization that provides job training services to single mothers, displaced homemakers and individuals in transition across 13 sites in Pennsylvania through their New Choices Career Development Services program.  This program provides free training classes on subjects including:  keyboarding; computer software programs; career development workshops; math; reading; English assistance and more.  New Choices programs in the Pittsburgh region are located at 325 Wood Street, downtown.

Additionally, PAWW offers transportation assistance to women engaged in a job search or who are participating in an employment training program by providing discounted bus passes.  They also offer a Working Wardrobe program that provides appropriate and fashionable clothing for women who qualify and are seeking employment or beginning new jobs or training programs.  PAWW also assists with resume writing, interviewing, and offers one-on-one job placement assistance.
