March 15, 2019: Senator Fontana participated in a Disability & Mental Health Summit hosted by Rep. Dan Miller on March 15. The three-day Summit closed with a legislative panel discussion centered around state policies and legislative initiatives that would increase independence and opportunities for everyone.

January 31, 2019: Senator Fontana addressed the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy students at the Allegheny County Pharmacists Association professional meeting on Jan. 31 at Duquesne University. November 17, 2018: Senator Fontana spoke on a wide variety of topics and answered questions from members of the Advocacy and Governmental Affairs Committee for the Golden Triangle Council of the Blind on Saturday, Nov. 17 in downtown Pittsburgh.

November 11, 2018: Senator Fontana visited American Legion Post 496 in Sheraden on  Veterans Day, and participated in a brief ceremony honoring the Post’s veterans.
October 27, 2018: Senator Fontana visited the Pittsburgh Firefighters Operation Warm event on Saturday morning. Now in its 7th year, this initiative by the Firefighters raises funds to purchase winter coats which are then distributed to children throughout the region.

Senator Fontana spoke at an Oct. 23 press conference at Duquesne University as the school announced plans for a comprehensive renovation of the A.J. Palumbo Center. The re-imagined facility will be named UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in honor of men's basketball legend and NBA trailblazer Chuck Cooper, who captained Duquesne University's men's basketball team before going on to become the first African-American to be drafted into the NBA in 1950. Senator Fontana was proud to assist in securing a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant that will be used for the project.
Last week, Senator Fontana visited with students at Avonworth Middle School and listened to their presentations and offered feedback on a project they have undertaken on the upcoming election. Students and volunteers spent the morning mulching, weeding and picking up litter along Brookline Boulevard.

June 8, 2017: I was honored to participate in a pre-game ceremony at PNC Park last Thursday night prior to the Pirates-Marlins game where the team honored the sacrifices made by more than 92,000 American service men and women who are Prisoners of War or Missing in Action since World War I by dedicating “one empty seat” at the ballpark.

Students from Pittsburgh Allegheny, Pittsburgh King, Pittsburgh Manchester, Pittsburgh Morrow and Pittsburgh Spring Hill have been working hard to develop their reading and other skills for school success as part of this initiative.
