HARRISBURG, April 21, 2021 – Continued improvements to North Side’s Allegheny Circle will receive a state grant for pedestrian upgrades, state Sen. Wayne Fontana announced today.
“A modern city is a walkable city and this grant will help bring that vision to Allegheny Circle,” Fontana said. “The first phase of the project improved traffic flow in the region and the next phase will make sure pedestrians and public transit riders can safely move around.”
Faros Property Management will manage the grant and will make the pedestrian improvements along the one-mile block encompassing North, South, East and West Commons roads. The project will install sidewalk lighting, safety lighting at garage entrances and exits, pedestrian benches and trash receptacles, and transit system digital signs to provide bus and rail stop location/schedules to the public.
The grant was approved today by the state’s Commonwealth Finance Agency at its meeting in Harrisburg. The total project cost is expected to top $790,000 with Faros committing $237,168.
“This represents and ideal public-private partnership to improve the quality of life for everyone in the area,” Fontana said.
