September 30, 2022: Senator Fontana presented a Senate citation to the family of Roberto Clemente on Sept. 30 at an event that celebrated the 50th anniversary of Roberto’s 3000th hit. The event took place at the site of the former Three Rivers Stadium where Roberto collected his 3000th hit in his final regular season at-bat. Three months later, Roberto died in a plane crash in route to Nicaragua to deliver goods to earthquake victims.

City of Bridges is partnering with the Polish Hill Civic Association for an eight-home development on land that has been largely vacant since a 2007 arson destroyed part of the area.

September 25, 2021: Senator Fontana joined with Representative Dan Deasy to host a Shredding Event in Beechview on Saturday, Sept. 25. Thanks to the Allegheny County Deputy Sheriff Joe Cirigilano for participating by collecting unwanted and unused medications as part of the Sheriff’s Project D.U.M.P. program.

The conversion of a blighted rail yard is being transformed into a 78-acre facility that will feature 10 synthetic soccer and multipurpose fields, two of which will be indoors, and a 20,000-square-foot AHN clinic offering a full range of services including walk-in primary and pediatric care and sports medicine programs. Senator Fontana was proud to support a state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant for this project that will be a terrific economic generator for Coraopolis, Neville and surrounding communities.

May 2021:  Senator Fontana participated in a groundbreaking ceremony in Crafton for the borough’s sewer separation project. Senator Fontana was able to help secure a $250,000 state grant to assist the project. The project will help reduce flooding risks and keep waterways clean.

November 15, 2020: Senator Fontana participated in a Pittsburgh Steelers pregame ceremony on Sunday at Heinz Field as the Steelers re-dedicated a seat as part of the One Empty Seat program.  This Chair of Honor program honors soldiers who are missing in action or prisoners of war. Senator Fontana was jointed by Senator Pam Iovino, Senator Lindsey Williams, Senator Jay Costa, and Jim Sacco, Steelers VP of Stadium Operations and Management.

March 4, 2020: Senator Fontana toured the PA 2-1-1 Call Center with some of his Senate and House colleagues. Located on the South Side, PA 2-1-1 handles calls from all over Pennsylvania. PA 2-1-1 Southwest is part of the national 2-1-1 Call Centers initiative that features call specialists who provide referrals to available resources for people in need. Food banks, utility payment assistance, job training crisis intervention, after school programs are just a few of the many referrals they can provide.

During the three-hour event, 117 people had their photos taken for their new Senior ConnectCard, 72 attendees got their Flu Shot, more than 90 pounds of unwanted medications were properly disposed of thanks to Allegheny Sheriff’s Project D.U.M.P. and 20 people were certified for a Medical Marijuana Card.

August 31, 2019: Senator Fontana attended the Honor Roll Dedication Ceremony in Brookline where a new plaque was presented.  The new plaque lists the 56 heroes who lost their lives in defense of our country during World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War.

The park, named after former the principal at West Liberty and Brookline Elementary Schools, Joseph F. Moore, was established in 1939 and opened to the public in 1940. July 12, 2019: Senator Fontana spoke at a press conference at the Heinz History Center that kicked off the Whiskey Rebellion Trail tour. The tour which started in Pittsburgh and encompasses parts of the Mid-Atlantic region, tells the story of the Whiskey Rebellion in the late 1700’s while showcasing today’s craft distilling movement.

Avon Club is a social and community service organization with membership open to women who live or work in the Avonworth School District.  The Club was founded in 1944 by women whose husbands were serving in World War II.

April 23, 2019: Senator Fontana participated in a Senate Democratic Policy Committee hearing on methane emissions at the Teamsters Temple in Lawrenceville. The hearing focused on strategies for combatting climate change by reducing methane gas emissions.
