BROOKLINE, May 1, 2012 – State Sen. Wayne D. Fontana was pleased to present a check, along with Rep. Nick Kotik, to the Kennedy Township Board of Commissioners on April 9, at the Kennedy Township Municipal Building.  The $150,000 check for Kennedy Township was received from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Safe Water Grant Program.  This funding was used to extend water lines to property owners along Pine Hollow Road that previously did not have access to water main distribution.

Sen. Fontana, along with Rep. Kotik, worked closely with Kennedy Township on the initial application in 2010 after learning of the need to extend water service to nine commercial and residential properties and worked with DEP to ensure the application met the criteria for the Safe Water Program.  Once funding was secured, the project commenced and was successfully completed in July 2011.  Following conclusion of the project, Kennedy Township was reimbursed as part of the grant agreement.

“I commend the leadership in Kennedy Township for making the effort to secure these much-needed funds and for their willingness to work together with Rep. Kotik and myself to make this project come to fruition,” said Fontana.  “I am pleased this project was successfully completed and that we were able to extend safe, drinking water to areas that needed it.”

Prior to the water main extension, the nine property owners affected were served by private water wells.  These wells eventually began to dry up and the water quality was poor.  The project installed over 1,600 feet of water lines to connect these properties to the water main.
